A short list is a hard no in every container we set. Paint, solvents, oils, tires, batteries, other hazardous chemicals, propane tanks, gas cylinders and medical or biohazard waste never go in an LCR Dumpster Rental Lancaster roll-off — no exceptions, no waivers. If you're unsure whether something counts, ask us before you load it.
Electronics are a hard no too, and it's the law. Pennsylvania's Covered Device Recycling Act bans covered electronic devices — TVs, computer monitors, CPUs and laptops — from general landfill disposal. Yard waste stays its own clean load. Pennsylvania has banned leaf waste from landfills since 1990, so yard trimmings and green waste get diverted rather than thrown in with general trash — one more reason a dedicated yard-waste roll-off, kept separate from construction and household debris, is the cleaner way to haul a landscaping or farm cleanup job. Debris that goes to the landfill goes where it's supposed to. Most of our construction and demolition loads route through the Lancaster County Solid Waste Management Authority (LCSWMA) system — the Transfer Station Complex on Harrisburg Pike, Frey Farm Landfill in Conestoga, or the Waste-to-Energy Facility in Bainbridge. Placement on a public street or sidewalk needs its own City permit. Private property never does, but a curb-lane container in Lancaster runs through the City's own Bureau of Engineering right-of-way permit process — a $75 fee, valid 90 days. The thing nobody tells you
Bigger is not always the safe choice
Most people ordering their first dumpster assume the biggest container is the least risky option. With light, bulky material — furniture, boxes, insulation, cabinetry — that's true. With anything dense it's the opposite.
A 30 or 40 yard box loaded with roofing shingles, or with plaster and lath torn out of an older Lancaster rowhome, will blow past its tonnage allowance while it still looks half empty, and the overage gets charged by the ton. The Red Rose City, block by block
Lancaster is the seat of Lancaster County, carrying its real nickname "Red Rose City" (adopted 1907) and known nationally as the heart of Pennsylvania Dutch Country — the "Garden Spot of America" and home to the world's largest Old Order Amish settlement. For one day, September 27, 1777, it was the capital of the young United States, and it later served as Pennsylvania's own state capital from 1799 to 1812. Central Market downtown, chartered in 1742, is one of the oldest continuously operating farmers markets in the country, and Franklin & Marshall College anchors the west side of the city. Call before the week is up and we'll talk through extending it — most of the time it's a simple add-on, not a renegotiation. Live jobsite swap-outs and early pickups get priority over everything else on the schedule.
How quickly can you deliver a dumpster in Lancaster?
Most orders called in early go out the same day across Lancaster and the closer parts of Lancaster County. Later calls usually land first thing the next morning. We run Mon–Sat 7:00am – 7:00pm. Jobsite swap-outs get priority because a full container stops a crew working. Do I need a permit for a dumpster on my property?
Private property — your driveway, yard or jobsite — generally doesn't need one. A container set out on a public street or sidewalk is different: the City of Lancaster Bureau of Engineering / Department of Public Works issues its own right-of-way permit for that, and we'll tell you exactly what's required before the truck ever leaves. Do I need to call before a dumpster is delivered?
Not for a container that simply sits on your driveway, an existing paved area or the curb — that's a surface placement, not excavation. PA One Call, Pennsylvania's one-call center (dial 811 or 1-800-242-1776), is what matters if the same project involves digging — a fence post, a footing, a drain line — anywhere near the drop spot.
