When the 40 yard is the right call
The 40 yard exists for one situation: a large quantity of light-to-mixed construction or remodeling debris with somewhere open and level to put the box. Large commercial fit-outs, warehouse and light-industrial clear-outs, major whole-property renovations and high-volume packaging or framing offcuts are where it earns its keep across Lancaster County job sites — the open commercial lots and larger county-town properties around places like Mount Joy or Millersville tend to suit it better than a tight in-city parcel.
It is rarely the right call for a standard residential driveway, and it is almost never a fit for the narrower rowhome driveways you find in older Lancaster neighborhoods like Cabbage Hill. At 22 feet long by 7.5 feet wide, the footprint is the same as a 30, but the walls stand two feet taller at 8 feet, which makes hand-loading over the rail genuinely hard work, and concrete, dirt, brick and tile stay off this size entirely — that heavy material still routes to a 10 or 15.
